The parable of the ten virgins – what your Sunday school teacher wouldn’t say.

As a kid I always thought that this parable negated some of the things we were thought in Sunday school. Whenever I asked my teachers they’d say, you’d understand better when you are older only after their attempts at explaining proved futile.
Today I still see no difference. I’d like your help if you can.
First I doubted if they were all virgins, for why would they really all want to marry only one man.
Secondly, I think the groom had double standards, he came late and now denies “knowing” the other five for they were late. Haba!
Third, what happened to all that lesson about sharing and love in sharing. The “wise” just wouldn’t share, not fair.
And again I must reiterate that if the bridegroom truly placed so much value on punctuality then he perhaps should have been punctual.
I personally would like to think that they expected him to be early, and so, saw no need for more oil. The fact that the other five got more oil was just some i-too-know on their part. It’s people like them that make life hard for the rest of us.
If he had been punctual there’d have been no need to get more oil and maybe he’d have had ten “virgins”.
Evidently though it was his loss. Or don’t you think?
